Southern University and A&M College is a comprehensive institution offering bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and associate degrees. Approximately 9,000 students enroll each year, with University housing provided for about 3,000 students.
In 1985, Southern University's initial master plan was created to take advantage of the opportunity made available by the 1981 Consent Decree. After 13 years, the University was ready to update the plan to accommodate growth and direct future building programs. Gerald Billes, as Principal of his previous firm, was hired to undertake this measure.
A comprehensive analysis was performed involving:
- Existing Conditions Review
- 1985 Master Plan Review
- Additions to the Master Plan
- Short and Long Range Recommendations
- Cost Estimates
- Funding Review
- Draft Master Plan Update
- Final Master Plan Update
The resulting Master Plan continues to guide the progress and development of the University.
